Our Food Philosophy

It is our belief that food should be accessible to everyone (and every pet). it should be nutritious, and it should not be exceedingly harmful to the environment.

First and foremost our market is for everyone. Our inclusive philosophy means that anyone who comes in looking for a more nutritious option for their pet should leave with just that, regardless of means.

Nutrition is our specialty! Naturally, nutrition and environmental impact go hand in hand in many ways. Real, whole foods are more nutritionally dense than heavily processed foods. Also, because they have not undergone any processing, they are much less harmful on our environment.

Raw and gently processed (such as dehydration or freeze drying) are your best source of biologically appropriate, nutritionally dense food. This has been largely neglected in our carnivorous companions for the better part of the last century when processing food became a miracle in the name of convenience. Pet food was transformed from real food (table scraps and leftover human food) to processed kibble and canned foods. Recently, frozen raw food and dehydrated or freeze dried food has become readily available to your pet via specialty pet stores like Flatirons Natural Pet Market.

We like to promote feeding real, fresh food to your pet as much as possible. Your cat is an obligate carnivore and needs nothing but fresh raw meat and organs, in fact anything else, especially carbohydrate heavy foods can be very detrimental to your cats health. Your dog is also a carnivore, some argue that they are omnivores because they can process some carbohydrate material, but they thrive best on raw meat, organs and bones. Your guinea pig is an herbivore and needs only high quality grasses usually in the form of hay.

Sorting through all the information and making decisions regarding what to feed your pet can be overwhelming, this is why we are here. We pride ourselves on being fluent in the language of pet nutrition and we strive to stay knowledgeable and current on all issues that involve pet foods, nutrition and pet health.
